I started knitting my sockapaloooza socks for the sock trade. I can already tell they are going to be too big for the recepient. However they are my size it seems. So I'm going to finish one, measure it, and if it's too big, start over. I'll make her 2, then I'll go make one to match the first one I made. Life is never simple.

Re: Sockapaloooza
Wed, February 8, 2006 - 7:05 PMlol I understand that one well... I found / am making it up as I go - a pattern for my sockster ... and even have made 1 sock, that was a test sock... that I was going to give to a group for a raffle prize week after next (I am an obscenley fast knitter) when I found out that a friends birthday is Saturday... gifties! But... I also have the problem that I have special ordered the yarn for the socksters socks... and it hasn't come yet... (I just ordered it Sunday... lol) and so anything that I make pattern wise is a 'trial' - prototype...

Re: Sockapaloooza
Wed, February 8, 2006 - 8:26 PMI'm so excited to be part of SockaPaloooza! I wish I was a little faster... but I love working with finger-weight yarn on #1's or #2's. My secret sock-pal has really big feet... zoiks. They are almost as big as mine. I've already finished one sock, but I might just keep that pair, and fiddle around with a new pattern I found. Or, send two pair... hmmmm... -

Re: Sockapaloooza
Fri, February 10, 2006 - 11:36 AMWith over 600 knitters signing up this time, and all within a one day period, I wonder if they are going to have to limit registration next time to like a six hour window. Can you imagine the insanity of tracking 600 sock trades? Yowsa! -

Re: Sockapaloooza
Thu, February 23, 2006 - 12:36 PMI scrapped my first pair of socks and started a new pair with a different pattern, smaller needles and wool yarn. I finished one and started on the 2nd one two days ago. Then I found out our apt. manager is going to do an appraisal on Sat. and that early spring cleaning is going to cut into my knitting time. Drat it all.
I also bought an Annies Attic sock pattern that has a pattern for lacy socks using wool ease yarn. The wool ease was even on sale, so after this swap is over, I'll try the new pattern.
How is everyone else doing sock wise? -

Re: Sockapaloooza
Tue, February 28, 2006 - 8:53 PMToday is the deadline to finish the socks. And I'm almost done. So I went to the page of participates here: alison.knitsmiths.us/sockapalOOOza.html and was surprised that out of over 600 participants, only a handful of people have finished their socks! The finished names are in red. I guess I don't have to kill myself finishing these tonight but I really do need to finish them because the rest of my projects are piling up. I'll post the new sock photos over in the album now.
Happy knitting! -

Re: Sockapaloooza
Wed, March 1, 2006 - 4:20 AMI thought the deadline was MAY 2nd...
"As we get close to the May 2nd deadline, another email will be sent to you with your sock pal's mailing address. This will give everyone a chance to double-check their address info before socks are sent. Once you get your pal's mailing address, please wait until the May 2nd deadline to send the socks, so that we can all receive our socks around the same time."
Yaaayyy... free time for you! -

Re: Sockapaloooza
Wed, March 1, 2006 - 7:50 AMJust moments ago I found out that very same thing from my sock sister. Somehow I misread that thinking the send off date was March 1, not May 1. I remember the day I started knitting thinking, "Hmmm, I could have sworn we had more than a month to knit these, I guess I better get cracking."
Well, at least I didn't finish them on May 1st only to find out the deadline was March 1. -

Re: Sockapaloooza
Wed, March 1, 2006 - 10:41 AMPANIC... (kinda)
Actualy, I found a pattern that I think will be great for my sock pal, from interweave knits, the winter edition... and am working on the prototype socks now... I'm one of these awful people that it only takes me about a week to do the pair... so yea I do need to get crackin... but not right this minute!

Wed, March 15, 2006 - 12:43 PMI just posted my finished socks to the gallery. I'll be glad when I don't have to type Sockapaloooza any more. My sock sister keeps forgeting to add me to her updates and to change my name to red on the finished list. -

Re: Sockapaloooza
Thu, May 25, 2006 - 1:02 PMI just got my socks in the mail. They are fantabulous! I couldn't figure out why the box smelled so garden fresh, nor why it was so heavy. It was heavy because it had a glass jar of Kansas BBQ saucein it, and it smelled so good because it has rosemary soap and frankencense and myrrh soap in it. And also some gourmet coffee.
Woo Hoo, I hit the jackpot. I'll post the photos in the album. The socks fit perfectly. They are made from Cascade Fixation and the pattern is Broadripple from Knitty.com.
Thanks Kohna in Kansas. -
