in-the-round stitch problem

i'm trying to work in a stitch pattern other than stockinette, in the round. can anyone tell me how i should alter the stitch pattern so that it turns out correctly?

    If you are knitting from a chart, you would read every row of the chart from right to left when knitting in the round.

    If it were flat knitting you would start at the bottom of the chart, do the first row right to left, turn the work, do the 2nd row left to right, alternating each time. So in a sense, knitting in the round is way easier...no flipping the work back and forth.

    If you were knitting something like ribbing...each time you came to a knit stitch you would knit, a purl stitch you would purl.

    It would help more if I knew what pattern you were aiming for.
